Doerthe Braun is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (Intermediate Senior 1/level 3). Her practice, and her teaching, are strongly influenced by decades of study with teachers around the world, including the Iyengars in Pune and senior teachers in Europe and North America. She studied with her mentor, John Schumacher, from 1999 -2021. From 2010-2021 she had been teaching at Unity Woods Yoga Center in Bethesda, MD/USA. Her current primary teacher is Corine Biria.

Doerthe is currently teaching online classes and in-person classes at Yogacity in Zurich. She is a recognized mentor at the association of Iyengar Yoga Switzerland. Doerthe offers a 3-year long mentorship program in Zurich to become a certified Iyengar teacher. She also trains and mentors teachers for the level 2 certification. She currently absolves a three-year-long Therapeutic Yoga Training (with complementary medicine modules of the OdAKT) with Dr. Kerstin Khattab.

Doerthe’s enthusiastic, energetic teaching style and her emphasis on precision encourage students to extend themselves physically and mentally, while her keen sense of humor keeps her classes fun. Students experience an enhanced awareness of the body, stability, and quietness of the mind and self-understanding. Doerthe integrates her knowledge of therapeutic methods in her regular classes and in focused workshops.

TESTIMONIALS

Doerthe is an amazing yoga teacher. Through her encouraging and fun teaching style I end up in challenging poses I never would have dreamed of with a smile on my face. I am also fortunate to have Doerthe as my pranayama teacher for many years now. With her thorough attention, great knowledge and long experience she not only creates a foundation for a regular pranayama practice but also the wish to take it further. She has the gift to weave yoga philosophy into her classes with ease and always shows the connection to daily life. And it amazes me how she can explain a complex concept be it in asana, pranayama or philosophy with a simple image so that it stays in my mind. Her deep love for yoga and her passion to bring out the best in every student is an inspiration!

Raina Fishbane is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (Level 2).  After trying many different types of yoga, Raina began studying with Doerthe and has been a long time student of Doerthe's and of Iyengar yoga ever since. Raina was drawn to the physical benefits, such as becoming stronger and more flexible, but also how Iyengar yoga helped her to quiet her mind and boost her energy.  She believes teaching is all about building relationships.  She is always deepening her own practice through her teaching, and vice versa, deepening her teaching through her own practice as well.   Her teaching style is relaxed and accessible and she shares her love and enjoyment of practicing with her students.

TESTIMONIALS

Raina has been my teacher since I restarted yoga a couple of years ago. Her classes are very enjoyable, as she is always cheerful and encouraging. While she does point out the ways one can (or rather should) improve a pose, she notices and praises when someone makes progress. She is very attentive to any injuries or pain one might have and always gives options how to avoid any damage. In her classes, she strives to elevate everyone’s practice, irrespective at which level the person is. I continue to benefit from her guidance and progressed much faster than I would have with a teacher not as attuned to the needs and idiosyncrasies of individuals.

Teacher in Training

A long-time yoga practitioner, Jeanne happened upon Iyengar Yoga with Doerthe Braun more than a decade ago and hasn’t looked back. She is in the second year of training towards a Level 1 Iyengar Yoga certification, mentored by Doerthe. In January 2024, she traveled to Pune, India, to study for a month at the Ramamami Iyengar Memorial Institute, learning and practicing yoga alongside descendants of B.K.S. Iyengar and senior teachers from around the world. This experience had a profound impact on her practice and deepened her appreciation of the dedication that is required to become a highly skilled Iyengar Yoga practitioner and teacher. Meditation, Pilates, weight training, and functional mobility have also been foundational complements to her yoga practice.
